Toyota 4Runner: Precaution

PRECAUTION

1. NOTICE FOR INITIALIZATION

NOTICE:

When disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal, some systems need to be initialized after the cable is reconnected (See page ).

2. PRECAUTIONS FOR PUSH-BUTTON START FUNCTION

(a) Before starting the engine, firmly depress the brake pedal until the indicator in the engine switch turns green.

(b) The power source mode (off, on (ACC), on (IG)) is always retained in memory by the vehicle. If the battery is disconnected, the power source mode that was selected before disconnection will be restored after the battery is reconnected. Be sure to turn the engine switch off before disconnecting the cable from the negative-battery terminal. Be careful if the power source mode of a vehicle with a discharged battery is not known.

(c) After the battery is reconnected, be sure to wait 10 seconds or more before attempting to start the engine. The engine may not start immediately after the battery is reconnected.

(d) When the key battery is depleted and the key is held against the engine switch to start the engine system, the following warning alarms will sound.

(1) The driver side door is opened and closed.

  • Shift lever in P power source cut reminder exit warning
  • Shift lever not in P power source cut reminder exit warning

(2) A door other than the driver side door is opened and closed:

  • Occupant leaves with key warning

The warning alarms do not indicate an actual malfunction. The alarms sound because the key battery is depleted and the system cannot determine if the key is inside the vehicle or not.
