Toyota 4Runner: VSC OFF Indicator Light Remains ON

DESCRIPTION

Operation of the VSC OFF switch changes the vehicle between normal mode, TRAC OFF mode*1 (AUTO LSD mode*2) and VSC OFF mode. During normal mode, pressing the VSC OFF switch for a short amount of time changes vehicle to TRAC OFF mode*1 (AUTO LSD mode*2). When the vehicle is stopped, pressing the VSC OFF switch for 3 seconds or more changes the vehicle to VSC OFF mode.

*1: for 4WD
*2: for 2WD

When the transfer is in L4, VSC is prohibited and the VSC OFF indicator and TRAC OFF indicator lights turn on.
w/ Rear Differential Lock:
When the rear differential is locked, VSC is prohibited and the VSC OFF indicator and TRAC OFF indicator lights turn on. At this time, ABS is also prohibited and the ABS warning light turns on.

NOTICE:

When replacing the master cylinder solenoid, perform calibration (See page ).

As there may be malfunctions in the transfer system related to when the transfer operates in L4, check the transfer system first (for Part-time 4WD: See page , for Full-time 4WD: See
page ).

PROCEDURE

1.	CHECK CAN COMMUNICATION LINE

GO TO CAN COMMUNICATION SYSTEM (HOW TO PROCEED WITH TROUBLESHOOTING)

2.	CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (SKID CONTROL ECU CSW CIRCUIT)

GO TO STEP 5

3.	CHECK TERMINAL VOLTAGE (EXI3)

GO TO STEP 7

REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR

4.	READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (TRAC/VSC OFF MODE)

GO TO METER / GAUGE SYSTEM (HOW TO PROCEED WITH TROUBLESHOOTING)

REPLACE MASTER CYLINDER SOLENOID

5.	INSPECT VSC OFF SWITCH

REPLACE VSC OFF SWITCH

6.	CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (SKID CONTROL ECU - VSC OFF SWITCH)

REPLACE MASTER CYLINDER SOLENOID

REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR

7.	CHECK TERMINAL VOLTAGE (EXI3)

GO TO STEP 9

REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR

8.	CHECK TERMINAL VOLTAGE (EXI3)

REPLACE MASTER CYLINDER SOLENOID

REPLACE FOUR WHEEL DRIVE CONTROL ECU

9.	INSPECT REAR DIFFERENTIAL LOCK DETECTION SWITCH (REAR DIFFERENTIAL LOCK POSITION SWITCH)

REPLACE REAR DIFFERENTIAL LOCK DETECTION SWITCH (REAR DIFFERENTIAL LOCK POSITION SWITCH)

10.	CHECK TERMINAL VOLTAGE (EXI3)

REPLACE MASTER CYLINDER SOLENOID

REPLACE FOUR WHEEL DRIVE CONTROL ECU
