Toyota 4Runner: On-vehicle Inspection

ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION

CAUTION / NOTICE / HINT

HINT:

  • Use the same procedure for the RH and LH sides.
  • The procedure listed below is for the LH side.

PROCEDURE

1. CHECK SIDE AIRBAG SENSOR ASSEMBLY LH (VEHICLE NOT INVOLVED IN COLLISION)

(a) Perform a diagnostic system check (See page ).


2. CHECK SIDE AIRBAG SENSOR ASSEMBLY LH (VEHICLE INVOLVED IN COLLISION AND AIRBAG HAS NOT DEPLOYED)

(a) Perform a diagnostic system check (See page ).


(b) When the center pillar of the vehicle or the surrounding area is damaged, check if there is any damage to the side airbag sensor. If there are any defects as mentioned below, replace the side airbag sensor with a new one:

  • Cracks, dents or chips on the sensor housing.
  • Cracks or other damage to the connector.
  • Peeling of the label or damage to the serial number.

CAUTION:

For removal and installation of the side airbag sensor, be sure to follow the correct procedure.

3. CHECK SIDE AIRBAG SENSOR ASSEMBLY LH (VEHICLE INVOLVED IN COLLISION AND AIRBAG HAS DEPLOYED)

(a) When airbags have deployed as the result of a collision, be certain to replace all side airbag sensors in the damaged area (anywhere in need of repair).

Furthermore, it is also necessary to replace any side airbag sensors in undamaged areas that have registered a major collision, or which exhibit any of the following abnormalities:

  • Cracks, dents or chips on the sensor housing.
  • Cracks or other damage to the connector.
  • Peeling of the label or damage to the serial number.

CAUTION:

For removal and installation of the side airbag sensor, be sure to follow the correct procedure.
