Toyota 4Runner: Operation Check

OPERATION CHECK

1. CHECK AUTOMATIC RUNNING BOARD OPERATION

(a) When side auto step switch assembly is "AUTO", the operation and condition of this control are described below.

Check that the driver side automatic running board operates as follows

Operation

Condition

Automatic running board is deployed immediately

Open either the front left door or the rear left door.

Automatic running board is stowed

When any of the following conditions is met:

  • Close the front and rear left side doors*.
  • Turn the side auto step switch assembly to OFF*.
  • Drive the vehicle at a speed of 8 km/h (5 mph) or more.

HINT:

*: The automatic running board stows into 2 seconds.

Check that the passenger side automatic running board operates as follows

Condition

Automatic running board is deployed immediately

Open either the front right door or the rear right door.

Automatic running board is stowed

When any of the following conditions is met:

  • Close the front and rear right side doors*.
  • Turn the side auto step switch assembly to OFF*.
  • Drive the vehicle at a speed of 8 km/h (5 mph) or more.

HINT:

*: The automatic running board stows into 2 seconds.

(b) The automatic running board does not function when the side auto step switch assembly is OFF.

2. CHECK JAM PROTECTION FUNCTION

CAUTION:

Do not put your hands between the vehicle body and automatic running board to check functions. Also, prevent any part of your body from being caught during inspection.

(a) Check the jam protection function while the automatic running board is being stowed.

(1) Open the door and fully deploy the automatic running board.

(2) Close the door and stow the automatic running board.

(3) While the automatic running board is being stowed, insert a tire or equivalent between the automatic running board and vehicle body, in order to interrupt the stowing operation.

(4) Check that the jam protection function is immediately activated and that the automatic running board reverses operation and moves to the deployed position.

HINT:

When there has been a jam 3 times in succession, the side auto step ECU judges that there is deemed to be an obstacle (a foreign obstacle) and stops the automatic running board in the position where the jam protection function has operated.

(b) Check the jam protection function while the automatic running board is deploying.

(1) Close the door and fully stow the automatic running board.

(2) Open the door and deploy the automatic running board.

(3) While the automatic running board is being deployed, interrupt the deploying operation using a tire or equivalent.

(4) Check that the jam protection function is immediately activated and that the automatic running board reverses operation and moves to the stowed position.

HINT:

When there has been a jam 3 times in succession, the side auto step ECU judges that there is deemed to be an obstacle (a foreign obstacle) and stops the automatic running board in the position where the jam protection function has operated.
